Green Jade Filigree Ring

Antique European ring

MAGNIFICENT JADEITE OF FINE TRANSLUCENCY & BRIGHT EMERALD GREEN TONE

This jade, deep DECO filigree ring, ca. 1880's - 1930's, is expertly carved.

Cultivated by the Chinese for over two thousand years It is therefore appropriate that this magnificent jadeite material has been transformed into a work of art in the form of a spectacular filigree mounting.

The intense, translucent VIVID apple green mosque color is rich and even throughout. Indicative of the high quality pieces of the era appear to glow from within.

The ring's 18 karat yellow gold frame is intricately detailed with engraved scrolls on the frame face while elegant millgrain edged filigree work trails down the sides. The ring band is engraved nearly all the way around and is shaped to conform to the wearers finger. The original Victorian ring has no cracks or chips- it is in excellent condition. .

Jadeite, the only cryptocrystalline precious stone, is composed of numerous tiny crystals which interlock to a greater or lesser degree, absorbing light so that the stone becomes increasingly opaque as it grows in thickness.

The production of a jadeite cabochon that shows a high degree of translucency and purity while retaining desirable thickness, requires the most perfect texture, zhong, and the highest cutting skill, making the cabochon extremely rare. These features, which are measured by observing the degree to which light can penetrate the stones, reveal high water content, shui fen, and fine ground, zhi di.

The finer the crystal structure of the material, the more even and transparent the fashioned piece will be. Light passes evenly throughout the cabochon, revealing an absolute purity that is free from flaws and lucent as the morning sunlight. Combined with a vitreous translucency, the stones radiate a remarkable depth of colour, a brilliant emerald green so typical of top quality jade. The cabochon is also impressive for grand sizes. It is extremely difficult to find a large cabochon of such graceful proportions, matching in translucency and purity, and in evenness and brilliancy of colour. Internally luminous and clear, these perfectly-formed jadeite cabochon domes are simply outstanding
